History of the laboratory:

Entomological research was carried out at the institution throughout its history. They were aimed at solving numerous problems related to the protection of agricultural crops from dangerous pests. During large-scale work in this direction, entire scientific schools arose, associated with the names of doctors of science, professors D.F. Rudneva, M.P. Uncle, V.G. Dolina, B.A. Areshnikova, V.P. Smilyantsa, S.O. Trybel, as well as academicians V.P. Vasylieva and V.P. Fedorenko A whole cohort of scientists worked on entomological problems - they are doctors of science Z.S. Golovyanko, A.I. Zrazhevskyi, Candidates of Science B.S. Denisyevskyi, V.I. Hrymalskyi, V.O. Lozynskyi, N.P. Tsybulska, O.M. Nevkryta, M.D. Taranukha, A.S. Degtyareva, D.M. Feshchyn, O.P. Znamenskyi, Yu.V. Lagodynskyi, M.G. Kostyukovsky, I.M.Plastun, M.G. Garnaga, V.O. Krut, M.V. Krut, S.M. Babich, O.A. Grikun, G.I. Vasechko, N.V. Lopatina, O.G. Shelikhov, L.V. Sherman, V.M. Stovchatyy, A.M. Main areas of scientific research:

study of the ecological regularities of the dynamics of the number, development and harmfulness of the main phytophages in crops;

theoretical justification of the use of mechanisms of resistance of agricultural plants to pests for the creation of complex resistant varieties;

improvement of methods of field assessment of the level of resistance of breeding material of varieties, varieties and hybrids of winter wheat, corn to the main pests;

improvement of chemical protection of field crops from pests based on the biocenological principle;

multi-purpose optimization of integrated plant protection systems, which are organic components of ecologically oriented agriculture under various forms of management;

theoretical substantiation of the formation and zonal distribution of the species composition of harmful insects, mites and the peculiarities of their biology in different types of fruit plantations in different soil and climatic zones;

theoretical substantiation of the formation of the acaro- and entomocomplex under conditions of different intensity of pesticide use in protection systems and determination of dominant species;

development of systems for protecting fruit plantations from pests.

Practical developments:

systems for protecting crops of winter and spring wheat, clover seeds, potatoes, sugar beets, and corn from dangerous pests;

protection of common bitter chestnut from the chestnut transient moth;

protection of grain stocks from pests;

sources of resistance to the main pests of winter wheat, potatoes, clover;

long-term monitoring of the species composition and harmfulness of the main types of harmful organisms in fruit plantations in the steppe and forest-steppe zones of Ukraine;

technology for protecting apple orchards from harmful mites;

the technology of using pheromone traps for seasonal monitoring of lepidopteran populations;

ecologically safe systems of protection of apple plantations based on the use of regulators of growth and behavior of insects;

Prospective areas of research:

ecological and economic optimization of integrated protection of winter wheat, corn, sunflower, barley, soybeans, peas and other crops from pests;

limiting the rate of formation of resistance of pest populations to resistant varieties;

modeling of processes of formation and zonal distribution of harmful species of mites and insects in different types of fruit plantations;

algorithms for regulating the viability of populations of harmful insects in fruit orchards and limiting their number.
