By order of the President of NAAS, academician Gadzalo Y.M. the management quickly sent the employees of the institute: the head of the lab. of forecasts, candidate of scientific sciences Fedorenko A.V., n.s. lab technologies of pesticide application Bashchenko M.M. promptly responded to a massive outbreak of locusts in Stanychno-Luhansk district, Luhansk region, where on July 12 a flock of locusts was spotted flying from the territory of the demarcation line (the land of the fish farm on the territory of the Valuy settlement council), with a number of more than 50.0 individuals/m2, which significantly exceeded the EPSH.
Since the focus of the spread of this dangerous pest is located on the demarcation line, a problem has arisen regarding the control of its population. It is impossible to use agricultural aviation here, and the presence of minefields makes it difficult to carry out any ground measures to eliminate locusts. In the emergency measures, units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, military sappers and aerial surveillance by unmanned aerial vehicles were involved in order to determine the limits of the spread of locusts. As a result, dependent lands were treated with the use of chemical plant protection agents.
With the assistance of the head of the phytosanitary security department of the Main Department of the State Production and Consumer Service of Luhansk region, I. Yu. Lyaskevych and the chief specialist, state phytoinspector of the Main Department of the State Production and Consumer Service of Luhansk region, S. A. Sukharevskyi, conducting surveys in the fields of rural areas. cultures, where swarms of locust groups are noted, and directly in places of reservations - on abandoned lands and adjacent territories. IZR employees determined the species composition of the pest - migratory locust (Locusta migratoria L.). It was established that after protective measures are taken, its number in cells is up to 2.0 ex/m2, which is at the level or below the EPSH. Consultations were also provided to the relevant services on the ground regarding the implementation of protective measures, taking into account the peculiarities of the surveillance area.
Special attention is paid to places of reservation, for the timely detection of not only migrating locusts, but also larvae of gregarious species. In case of detection of centers of mass reproduction, carry out protective treatments with registered pesticides at a number of larvae of 10.0-15.0 specimens/m2 non-herding forms of locusts, and 2.0-5.0 copies/m2 gregarious forms.
