From March 10 to 13, 2026, the Institute of Plant Protection of the National Academy of Sciences took part in an international scientific and practical seminar held at the National University of Bioresources and Nature Management of Ukraine and dedicated to the implementation of climate-resistant and ecologically oriented practices in horticulture. Participants are trainedmoose within implementation the project "Preparation of Eastern Partnership countries for the European Green Course" (PROGRESS), which is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) as part of its International Climate Initiative (IKI), implemented by a Consortium of Organizations led by a German governmental organization Deutsche Gesellschaft for Internationale Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Regional Ecological Center of the Caucasus (REC), a representative office European Business Association Moldova and the State institution "Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" (IEP).
It is worth noting that the main goal of the event was to present, for further implementation, knowledge packages for local support structures, in particular representatives of agricultural associations, advisory services, educational and scientific institutions, specialized state and local authorities, as well as other organizations that provide consulting, organizational and expert support to farmers, as well as for farmers in the context of climate-oriented, sustainable and green economic development, using the example of apple cultivation, processing and export (March 10), raspberries (March 11), garden strawberries (March 12) and walnut (March 13) in Ukraine. The training format involved preparing participants to further transfer knowledge to farmers and other stakeholders, which would help scale up climate change adaptation solutions.
During March 10-13, scientists, representatives of state institutions, international organizations, and agrarian business discussed modern approaches to adapting horticulture to climate change, increasing the industry's competitiveness, and developing green innovations.
The scientific part of the program was primarily devoted to the practical aspects of the adaptation of the horticulture industry to new climatic conditions, in particular, the Institute of Plant Protection of the National Academy of Sciences presented the key principles of integrated plant protection, which combine agrotechnical, biological and chemical methods of controlling harmful organisms with compliance with the requirements of environmental safety and economic feasibility.
The event was attended by more than 200 participants, some of whom took part in person, and some - in a remote format.
Professional discussions demonstrated that the combination of modern growing technologies, integrated plant protection, international quality standards and new financial instruments creates real prerequisites for the modernization of the Ukrainian agricultural sector in accordance with the principles of the green transition and reducing the use of pesticides.
