On April 19, 2016, the public organization "Ukrainian Entomological Society" with the participation of specialists from the Institute of Plant Protection of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Zoology named after I.I. Schmalhausen of the NASU, the Faculty of Plant Protection, Biotechnology and Ecology of the National University of Bioresources and Nature Management of Ukraine held a scientific and educational seminar for students, graduate students, research staff, amateur entomologists, plant protection specialists on the topic "The importance of taxonomy for applied entomology".

The Institute of Plant Protection of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was chosen as the venue not by chance, since a significant part of the highly qualified personnel potential of entomologists is concentrated here, and at the same time, numerous scientific studies are carried out on the most pressing issues of applied entomology. In addition, without this institution, the activity of the Ukrainian Entomological Society has always been almost impossible. The main contingent of the audience were students of the plant protection faculty of NUBiP of Ukraine.

Director of the Institute of Plant Protection of the National Academy of Sciences O.I. Borzykh opened the seminar, talking about the achievements, problems and prospects of the institution. President of the NGO "Ukrainian Entomological Society", Academician of the National Academy of Sciences V.P. Fedorenko revealed the role of this organization in the promotion and dissemination of entomological knowledge in society. The experience of teaching insect taxonomy in agricultural higher educational institutions was shared by associate professor of NUBiP of Ukraine, candidate of biological sciences M.M. Plyska.The books of recent years in the entomological profile were presented - the textbook "Entomology" / V.P. Fedorenko, Y.T. Pokozii, M.V. Krut (K., 2013), "Explanatory dictionary of agrozoology" / M.M. Plyska (K., 2014), the textbook "Systematics of insects" / M.M. Plyska, L.P. Pasichnyk (K., 2015), monograph "Strategy and tactics of plant protection" in 2 volumes / V.P. Fedorenko and others. (K., 2012, 2016).

Reports on fairly global topics were made by representatives of the Institute of Zoology named after I.I. Schmalhausen of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine:

  • head of the department of scientific stock collections, doctor of biological sciences O.V. Puchkov - "The importance of taxonomy for applied entomology and the peculiarities of the use of taxonomic names of insects";
  • doctor of biological sciences, professor O.G.Radchenko - "Main directions and methods of zoogeographic research";
  • researcher I.V. Nebogatkin - "The role of taxonomy of ixodid ticks in epizootology".

Associate Professor of the Department of Integrated Protection and Quarantine of Plants of the Ukrainian National University of Science and Technology, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences. in his report "Classification of hexapods in trophology" paid a lot of attention to the science of food - trophology, which is just being formed, but its role in society in the future may become invaluable. Discussions in this direction can continue.

Interesting were the speeches of the scientists of the Institute of Plant Protection of the National Academy of Sciences - Doctor of Biology. of Sciences, professor, academician of the National Academy of Sciences, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine V.P. Fedorenko "Systematics (diagnosis) of harmful and beneficial insects in integrated plant protection systems of Israel", head of the laboratory of entomology and resistance of agricultural crops against pests, candidate of agriculture Sciences O.O. Strigun "Systematics of insects for evaluation of varieties of agricultural crops for resistance to damage by pests", head of the forecasting laboratory, candidate of agriculture Sciences A.V. Fedorenko "Systematics of pests and forecast of their distribution", as well as the director of "Ukragrochemtrade" LLC D.P. Serednyak "Special conditions for insect diagnostics for carrying out work on decontamination of grain stocks".

An overview of the insect collection created by Academician of the National Academy of Sciences V.P. Fedorenko, which contains several thousand species from various systematic groups, was also organized for the audience of the seminar.

As a result, the great need for further combination of scientific and educational processes, as well as for studying the experience of advanced countries in matters of management, in particular plant protection, was emphasized.
