Researchers developed a peptide-based biosensor for detecting the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda by exploiting how male odorant receptors recognize female sex pheromones. Published in Journal of Pest Science, the study used homology modeling and molecular docking to predict binding sites of three receptors for two sex pheromones. Based on these sites, eight receptor-derived peptides were designed and tested as sensors.
