Professional training through practice: plant protection in focus

In modern agriculture, the issue of plant protection plays a key role in ensuring a stable harvest and environmental safety. One of the most important stages of training specialists in the "Protection and Quarantine of Plants" specialty is educational practice, which allows students to deepen their theoretical knowledge and acquire practical skills in chemical plant protection. This stage of the educational process forms among students of higher education an understanding of the principles of action of plant protection products, the rules of their safe use, and also promotes the development of professional responsibility.
As part of the passage educational practice with disciplines "Chemical plant protection" students of the 3rd year of the specialty 202 "Protection and quarantine of plants" together with the head of practice, associate professor of the department of entomology, integrated protection and quarantine of plants, candidate of agricultural sciences, associate professor Lesya Mykhailivna BONDAREV, visited the Institute of Plant Protection of the National Academy of Sciences. The purpose of the visit there was an introduction to scientific approaches and methods used to study harmful organisms, study their development mechanisms, assess the effectiveness and safety of plant protection products in the system of integrated plant protection.
During the practice, students had the opportunity familiarize yourself with the work of the main laboratories of the Institute of Plant Protection of the National Academy of Sciences, which are engaged in diagnostics and scientific research in the field of protection of agricultural crops.
Institute of Plant Protection of the National Academy of Sciences is a powerful partner of the Faculty of Plant Protection, Biotechnology and Ecology of the National University of Bioresources and Nature Management of Ukraine. Since 2011, the director of the institute is an honorary academician of the National Academy of Sciences, a doctor of agricultural sciences Oleksandr Ivanovich BORZYKH.

The representatives of the management of the institute warmly welcomed the students, and the scientific staff held interesting and informative meetings excursions laboratories of analytical chemistry and toxicology of pesticides, phytopathology and nematology. Students replenished their theoretical knowledge and in practice learned independently carry out identification and isolation of harmful organisms.

Having visited the laboratory of analytical chemistry and toxicology of pesticides, the laboratory of phytopathology, and the laboratory of nematology, the students got acquainted with the real work of modern laboratories, which are the basis for the effective and safe use of chemical means of plant protection. The practice was very informative, interesting and contributed to the formation of professional competences in chemical plant protection.
