Ukrainians share stunning videos and photos on social networks, in which swarms of locusts move as a single organism and destroy everything in their path. This phenomenon is observed mainly in the southern regions of the country.
Locust is not something new for Ukraine. 22 species of locusts are common here, but not all of them are dangerous. They usually live alone, and only two species - "Prus italiana" and "Moving locust" - group together and pose a threat, says Andrii Fedorenko, a senior researcher at the Institute of Plant Protection of the National Academy of Sciences.
